FIELD GUIDES

This three-book field guide series investigates the history, symbolism, and evolving cultural significance of birthstones through the structured exploration of grid systems. Each volume was designed around a distinct grid methodology: manuscript grid, modular grid, and deconstructed grid, allowing for increasingly experimental approaches to content organization. The first publication introduces foundational information through structured editorial layouts, while the second incorporates imagery and modular systems to create a more traditional field guide experience. The final conceptual volume critiques the commercialization of birthstones, examining how their once mystical and spiritual associations have been transformed by consumer culture. Through typography, layout experimentation, and conceptual storytelling, the series demonstrates versatility in editorial systems while using design as a tool for both education and critique.
